• WestJet Rewards remains focused on making travel more accessible by helping Canadians save on travel.  
• The program is still designed around making savings on redemption simple: apply any amount of WestJet points to any fare, with no blackouts or pricing grids. The new program adds to this with more ways to earn points and save on flights and vacations. 
• In addition, Silver, Gold and even Platinum status can now be achieved without flying, or through a combination of travel spend and credit card spend. 

We’ve kept it simple: 2,500 points per flight booking and 5,000 for vacation bookings.

The WestJet dollar has always been easy to use and understand; however, it limited the number of choices we could give members to earn and redeem rewards the way they wanted.  

• WestJet points offer more flexibility on redemption and new ways to earn.  
• WestJet points can integrate with new partners like TELUS and Skip, giving you more options beyond travel.  
• WestJet points can be awarded in smaller increments, allowing us to count smaller purchases with WestJet (e.g. seat selection and checked bags) while also expanding the types of things you can earn on in your day-to-day (the WestJet Rewards eStore).  
• WestJet points allow us to provide new redemption value on the items we’ve added when booked outside of the booking flow, thereby allowing the member to choose convenience even if it comes at varied rates of value.  
• WestJet points let you use your rewards on more things, even after you’ve booked your flight. This means you can choose to pay with points for extras—like cabin upgrades or seat selection—whenever it’s most convenient for you. The number of points needed might change depending on when and how you book, but you get more options to use your rewards the way you want. 

Members can now redeem their points for the entire fare, including the base fare plus all the extras like seats, bags, surcharges, taxes and fees. This means members can redeem their points for a truly free flight.

Silver, Gold and Platinum members will now be able to earn tier qualifying spend and WestJet points on cabin upgrades purchased, as well as on carrier surcharges (other Air Transportation Charges) on the ticket. For many of our frequent flyers, this will make a meaningful difference in accumulation of both tier qualifying spend and WestJet points. 

This depends on a few factors: your tier, the route flown and the extras purchased (or not). Teal members earn at least two times what they used to, moving from 0.5% of base fare only to 1 pt per dollar spent on the base fare plus extras. The earn rates of top-tier members have stayed the same (e.g., Silver at 3% becomes 3 pts per dollar). However, members can now also earn WestJet points on extras such as upgrades and surcharges. We’ve included an example below for a flight between Calgary and London, England.  

Roundtrip flight from Calgary, AB to London, England:

  • $791 base fare  
  • $500 carrier surcharges (now eligible for earn) 
  • $70 extra checked bag (now eligible for earn) 
  • $233 Extended Comfort seat (now eligible for earn)

  • Teal: 4 WSD before, now 1,594 pts (1 pt/$ on $1,594 vs. 0.5% on $791) 
  • Silver: 24 WSD before, now 4,782 pts (3pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 3.0% on $791) 
  • Gold: 40 WSD before, now 7,970 pts (5pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 5.0% on $791) 
  • Platinum: 63 WSD before, now 12,752 pts (8pts/$ on $1,594 vs. 8.0% on $791) 
     

In the examples above, Silver, Gold and Platinum members may not have needed to purchase an extra checked bag or Extended Comfort seat, as their tier benefits may have granted these benefits free of charge.  

At time of booking:  

• 100 WestJet points is worth 1 CAD savings on base fare, surcharges (other Air Transportation Charges), bags and seats.  
• After making a full redemption for everything on the ticket, if a member has enough remaining points to cover the taxes and fees, they will have the option to redeem on that portion as well. Redemption will be available in two increments: either 50% or 100% of the taxes and fees, the latter allowing for a fully free flight or vacation.  
• When redeeming on the taxes and fees portion of the ticket, 105 – 110 WestJet points is worth 1 CAD savings. 
   

Post-booking purchases: 

• 100 – 110 WestJet points is worth 1 CAD savings on flight extras added post-booking, which can be done during Manage Trips and Digital Check-In. 

If you use your WestJet points for a Member Exclusive fare, you’ll access redemption fares with the highest point values.  If the Member Exclusive fares are not available on the exact flight you want, you can always use your points to purchase any fare available on our website (or WestJet app), allowing you to reduce the cash payment required. 

Plus, if you have WestJet Rewards status, you can still enjoy perks like complimentary upgrades and lounge access when you travel on a Member Exclusive Fare. 

No. WestJet points are the reward currency that can be redeemed to save on travel and vacations with WestJet and merch in the WestJet Reward eStore. WestJet points are independent of tier qualifying spend. 

Tier qualifying spend is how we track your progress to Silver, Gold or Platinum status. It includes certain portions of your flight and vacation package spend with WestJet, along with amounts earned through Status Lift, a benefit provided to primary cardholders of a WestJet RBC^® World Elite Mastercard^‡. Tier qualifying spend has no monetary value and cannot be redeemed or exchanged. 

There are three adjustments in the top-tier benefits: 

• Platinum members can now transfer their guest lounge and seat selection vouchers to other WestJet Rewards members. 
• Gold members can now transfer their guest lounge vouchers to other WestJet Rewards members. 
• Silver members’ seat selection vouchers (earned through achieving Silver in the remainder of the 2025 qualifying year and beyond) can now only select standard seats in the Economy cabin (Extended Comfort and Exit row excluded). All previously issued seat selection vouchers to current Silver members will remain eligible for any seat in the Economy cabin.  

You can access the WestJet Rewards eStore through your WestJet account, the WestJet app and on our website in the Rewards menu.  

You can sign in to the WestJet Rewards eStore using your WestJet Rewards ID and password, allowing you to earn and redeem on your purchases.
