Great hotel. Horrible hotel restaurant service and mouse sighting!

Hyatt Regency (Downtown Vancouver location) The hotel’s staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating. After arriving to the hotel after a week long cruise, my husband and I were so pleased to make our way to the hotel and be checked in immediately. The property’s decor was wonderful. I can’t say enough about how pleased we were with the accommodations. We had a fabulous view of the city, our room was spacious and clean. If not for the deplorable experience we had dining at the hotel’s restaurant, our review would be 5 out of 5. Unfortunately I have to say the dining experience at Mosaic Grille was so very disappointing. I want to be fair in my critique of the totality of my group’s visit, however, I’m finding it extremely difficult to get past the MOUSE sighting witnessed at the end of our meal. The server witnessed the mouse scurrying underneath the nearby table and appeared to be as startled by the sighting as we were. She immediately went to alert the manager. The situation was bad enough all the way around, however, it got worse (I could not believe that could even have been possible). The manager did not or would not come and address the situation with our group. He looked our way, whispered to the server then disappeared. The server(not the manager) then returned and apologized. She said she spoke with the manager and partially discounted the bill. We feel the managers lack of response was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Moving beyond the aforementioned incident, the service was extremely slow. We had to flag the staff down throughout the meal for common service needs (taking our drink order, providing utensils, taking dessert order, delivering ordered dessert and finally requesting our check). The server was polite and her interactions were kind, however the service was less than satisfactory. At this point I feel conflicted to report that the food receives high marks. The meal serving size was more than sufficient, the seasoning was excellent, and although we waited a very long time to receive our meal, it did arrive hot. Prior to the mouse sighting, I would have been inclined to giving the restaurant another try; we’d already planned to have breakfast there the next morning before leaving the hotel. I made excuses for the slow service as it appeared the may have been understaffed. After the mouse incident and the manager’s unwillingness to address our table, there is absolutely no recovery. Unbelievably disappointing! I must say if the restaurant located on the second floor of the hotel had a mouse freely roaming the dining room, the concern about other sightings throughout the rest of the hotel was indeed elevated.

Staying in the heart of the city can be a surprise. The outside world can have a lot of (negative) influence on the experience when your stay is to relax, for pleasure or business purposes. However the location of Hyatt Vancouver, the handling of that infleunce from outside by an excellent team of friendly, compentent staff really made the difference. A great easy accesible location when coming with your own vehicle as well with public transport at the doorstep or taxi. Or even by foot. Sights, food- bar places, shops, transport everything is just around the corner. We already look forward to our next stay this summer, fal 2025l!!
